About DummyTrader
DummyTrader is a free, browser-based paper-trading simulator. It gives you virtual money to buy and sell stocks, index futures and options against real, delayed market prices — so you can learn how trading works without risking a single rupee.
Why we built it
Most people who want to learn trading face the same problem: the only way to find out how the market behaves is to put real money at risk, and the fastest way to lose money is to learn while doing it. Brokerage demo accounts are often clunky, time-limited, or hidden behind sign-up walls. We wanted something open and instant — a place where a curious beginner could place their first trade in under a minute and see, concretely, what a profit-and-loss number actually feels like as prices move.
DummyTrader is that place. Everything is simulated: the cash is virtual, the positions are virtual, and nothing you do can cost or earn you real money. What's real is the price data and the mechanics — order types, margin, leverage, option premiums and expiry all behave the way they do on a live trading platform.
Who it's for
- Complete beginners who want to understand what buying a stock or an option actually involves before opening a brokerage account.
- Students and self-learners working through the concepts in our trading guides and wanting to practice them live.
- Experienced traders testing a new strategy, instrument or routine without putting capital at risk.
- Algo and AI builders who use our public trading API to test automated strategies against a paper account.
How it works
When you open the simulator you start with a virtual cash balance. You can search for a stock or index, view its live chart, and place buy or sell orders just as you would on a real platform. Your positions update in real time as prices move, and your net worth reflects your cash plus the current value of everything you hold — adjusted for leverage and margin where relevant.
Index and stock options are fully supported: you can browse an option chain, pick a strike and expiry, and trade calls and puts with realistic premiums. Because it's paper trading, you're free to make mistakes, blow up the account, reset, and try again — which is exactly how the learning happens.
An important reminder
DummyTrader is an educational tool. Simulated results are not a promise of real-world performance — real trading carries costs, taxes, slippage and emotions that a simulator can only approximate. Nothing on this site is investment advice. Please read our Terms of Use and Privacy Policy, and never trade real money you can't afford to lose.
